In certain situations, you ask to see a sign to guide you in the right direction. Sometimes these calls to a higher power are answered, and sometimes we are left to seek counsel from within. But if you look for them, the signs will usually present themselves to those with open eyes. These were some of those moments when the signs could not have been any clearer…

National Philanthropy Day

National Philanthropy Day® is a special day set aside on the fifteenth of November. The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—to the enrichment of our world.

NPD was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s, and the first official events held in 1986 after President Reagan signed the official NPD proclamation. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.

21st Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon
November 7th, 2018 between 11:00am – 2:00pm

AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME: PART 2

Some of my fondest memories volunteering abroad were families that we built homes for in Malawi through Habitat for Humanity. As part of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project, our Canadian team built homes for two beautiful families in the town of Geregere. Here are photos of our progress from Days 6 through 8 that includes laying brick floors, plastering walls and assisting with the roof. Malawi is simply Malawi: simply authentic, ignorantly stubborn, perfectly content and strikingly beautiful. And I love it!

We hope to launch ROOF UP MALAWI in 2017, an initiative to provide new roofs for 100 families. We will update you on our progress.

AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME: PART 1

Our Habitat for Humanity trip to Malawi was humbling and very rewarding. As part of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project, our Canadian team built homes for two beautiful families. Here are photos of our progress from Days 1 through 5 that included brick laying and more brick laying and even more brick laying. By the middle of Day 4, we finished all the walls. And by Day 5, we were helping with the roofing and the brick floors. Malawi is simply Malawi: simply authentic, ignorantly stubborn, perfectly content and strikingly beautiful. And I love it!

17. MILLION. LIVES.

Not long ago, AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria looked unstoppable. In many countries, AIDS devastated an entire generation, leaving countless orphans and shattered communities. Malaria killed young children and pregnant women unable to protect themselves from mosquitoes or to access the right medicine. Tuberculosis unfairly afflicted the poor, as it had for millennia. Things have changed and the tide is turning, spearheaded by The Global Fund.

The Global Fund - Page 1

The Global Fund - Page 2

Partners in global health came together, to fight back. By working together, by pooling resources and expertise, and by involving people affected by the diseases, civil society, the private sector and governments, we have made progress way beyond what seemed possible.

Today, the Global Fund issued a Results Report, showing that health investments made through the Global Fund have saved 17 million lives, expanding opportunity and achieving greater social justice for families and communities worldwide. Even better, the report shows that advances in science and innovative solutions are accelerating progress at an ever faster-rate, getting us on track to reach 22 million lives saved by the end of next year.

But it’s no time to celebrate. We are only half way there. Tremendous challenges in global health still await us. Adolescent girls are contracting HIV at a terrible rate in southern Africa. TB/HIV co-infection is on the rise, as is multidrug-resistant TB. Gains made against malaria could be lost if we don’t expand prevention and treatment programs. GIVEGROWGO supports The Global Fund. Please do your part.

thank-you

In 7 years, Pencils of Promise has met thousands of people who started a fundraising campaign because they truly believe that where a child is born shouldn’t limit his or her potential. Over 33,000 supporters have started campaigns and are committed to providing children in the developing world with access to quality education. Congrats Pencils of Promise!

Stay tuned for how GIVEGROWGO will be partnering and supporting Pencils of Promise in the near future!

DID YOU KNOW?

PENCILS OF PROMISE (PoP) was started by Adam Braun, a smart and charismatic young man destined for great fortunes on Wall Street. As he started his career, Adam realized that his heart was taking him in a very different direction… philanthropy. GIVEGROWGO believes in PoP and in Adam Braun. To fundraise for Pencils of Promise, please visit www.pencilsofpromise.org.

So if you’re Adam Braun or PENCILS OF PROMISE and you’ve noticed us, please give us a shoot! We would LOVE to partner with you on future school builds and find synergies between our two for-purpose organizations. GIVEGROWGO will also start a PoP Fundraising Campaign in 2016 to help build a school in Africa, so stay tuned. Photos © Pencils of Promise

DID YOU KNOW?

PENCILS OF PROMISE is one of our favourite for-purpose movements.

PoP believes that education is a basic human right and GIVEGROWGO agrees!

Over 75 million children today live without access to even a preschool education. It’s not enough to just build a school anymore. It’s about long-term impact through sustainable ownership by local communities and support from PoP.
